Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in television, film and the theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer from the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. At an Maryland high school competition in her early years of education she received the award for the best actress. Apart from her role in the theater as well as with 'The Washington Ballet Company.' She received a degree in Acting from New York University. Her first major role as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love fetched the most respect. Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was 7years old, traveled all over the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She attended an boarding school in London between 7 and 9 years. Later, her family relocated from London in Toronto, Canada. Contractor had a great academic career in Toronto in addition to her training as ballerina. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public school for high schools that is specialized in arts) the student studied dance and theatre. At 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor decided to take up acting as a profession. As she finished high school, she was offered a full tuition scholarship to University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. After one semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the production Pericles in the highly regarded, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and was offered the lead role. Her performance was lauded in the 92 plays which she was a part of. She won the 2002 award for the Best Production of the Year, as judged by Canadian critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. Only eight men selected as well as four females get accepted for the 20-week course in classical theater. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the following season, and was offered the role of Hermia.
